[edit] Class and Capitalism

Felix, you are addressing a controversial topic when you try to contribute to the Capitalism page. It sounds to me like you have legitimate contributions to make, and I encourage you to contribute. It is true that some people will edit what you write (this is something to be expected and taken for granted). Others will delete. In such cases, you have a right to ask why it was deleted. Legitimate grounds for deletion are violation of one of our core policies:

  • Wikipedia:Neutral point of view (note: this applies not just to contributors but to articles. In other words, in order for an article to comply with our NPOV policy, it must represent all appropriate views. Under these circumstances, an editor may have to add one view, to balance a view that is already there.
  • Wikipedia:No original research
  • Wikipedia:Verifiability It is important to understand that no editor or article should claim to be telling "the truth." This is a philosophical issue outside of the bounds of Wikipedia. Instead of telling the "truth," we hold to a standard of verifiability.
  • Wikipedia:Cite sources

I urge you to familiarize yourself with these policies for two reasons. First, if you fully understand the policies, you will prevent yourself from contributing material that violates a policy and will be deleted. Second, if you fully understand these policies and are commited to them, you can contribute to articles with confidence.

If someone deletes anything you have written, even though you have complied with all of these policies, you have a right to complain. If this happens, go to Wikipedia:Resolving disputes and follow the directions. This page, like the others I mentioned, is an official policy. We have it for a reason: users do get into conflicts, and sometimes have no choice but to go through a conflict-resolution process.

You should also look at Wikipedia:Be bold in updating pages. This is not an official policy, just a guideline — yet it addresses a core value in our community: Be Bold!

It is inevitable that anyone who contributes a lot to Wikipedia will eventually come into conflict with another user. Refering to the policies I have mentioned should help you and the other person resolve the conflict on the talk page of the article. But believe me, sooner or later you will encounter someone who will never compromise with you. Make sure you are complying with our official policies. If you are, you have rights, like any other contributer, and if you follow the "resolving disputes" guidelines you will find people in this community who will support you.
