Bastians made his way up through the youth team ranks and has since become a fairly regular first team player, mostly coming off the bench. His father is a well known doctor in Germany and helped him recover from an injury in January 2006.
Bastians played on loan for Football Conference clubs Northwich Victoria and Halifax Town where he scored 5 goals overall for the two sides, including a goal on his debut at St Albans City. While playing for Halifax Town he was named "Man of the Match" 3 times. He was recalled to the Forest squad by Colin Calderwood for extra cover for the end of season run in.
He joined Gillingham on 22 March 2007 on a loan until the end of the 2006–07 season. He made his Gillingham debut in the 5-0 away defeat to Carlisle United on 24 March and scored his first goal in a 3-2 away defeat to Rotherham United on 7 April.
He joined Chesterfield on a month's loan in October 2007.[1] He impressed in his spell at Chesterfield, scoring one goal in thirteen appearances. His loan spell ended on January 2, 2008 and he signed for Notts County[2] two days later on a month's loan. On 14 February he joined another League Two club, MK Dons, once again on a month's loan.[3]. He later returned to The Reds, but failed to make an impact and was released by Colin Calderwood on May 21, 2008.
