Farouk Jiwa is currently director of CARE Enterprise Partners, a division of CARE Canada that seeks to apply market-based approaches to poverty reduction in the developing world.

Farouk is also the co-founder and director of Honey Care Africa, an innovative private sector social enterprise promoting sustainable community-based beekeeping in eastern Africa.

Farouk has received numerous international awards for his work, including the Equator Initiative Prize at the World Summit on Sustainable Development for his contributions to poverty reduction and biodiversity conservation (2002), the International Development Marketplace Innovation Award from the World Bank and Soros Open Societies Institute (2002), the Ismaili Youth Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship from His Highness Prince Amyn Aga Khan (2004), and the World Business Award from the Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum and UNDP in recognition of his contribution toward the UN Millennium Goals (2004). At the 2005 World Economic Forum in Davos, Farouk was recognised by the Schwab Foundation as being among the world's most outstanding social entrepreneurs. In late 2005, he received the Bryden Alumni Award from York University. He is an Aga Khan Foundation Scholar and a Sauvé Scholar (at McGill University) and holds a Master’s in Environmental Studies from York University, a post-graduate diploma in Business and Environment from the Schulich Business School, and a BSc (Honours, First Class) in Environmental Biology from Queen's University.
