[edit] Unneeded fields in template

The following should probably be removed, since they are only useful for nuisance edits:

  • dob — I don't think any FG character has a real date of birth, so any entry for this field is either WP:OR (cf. Adam West) or sneaky vandalism.
  • favsports — if this hasn't emerged after 5 seasons, any future hint to this would probably be a single-episode situation.
  • dissports — again, unimportant if stated at all. In the unlikely event that FG characters start having distinct sports rivalries, this could be restored, but currently this just invites graffiti edits.
  • favband — uhm, KISS and not KISS? Unless the other characters have MySpace pages, this isn't worth having in the infobox.
  • foodWimpy and Scooby-doo are not Family Guy characters.
  • hobby — no steady hobbies to speak of, so this would be either WP:OR (Stewie Griffin) or single-episode situations.
  • friend — variable, and WP:OR.

I deleted dob as a clear and present nuisance. The rest can wait, but should be removed in my opinion. / edg 06:08, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Removed the above plus the following: beer, drink, political leaning, vehicle. These aren't distinquished, consistent character traits (some hinted at for a single character), so these fields are unnecessary. Keeping them only encourages original research (and pointless edit wars) based on jokes and single-episode situations. vehicle, for example, is not distinquished except Brian's Prius (which is only hinted at, thus original research).
dob had been restored without explanation. Again, having this field can only encourage problems. / edg 01:08, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Also removed height and weight. These are unsourced for most (any?) characters, and frequent targets for vandalism and original research. / edg 04:58, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New features: altname, "short" format

I haven't finished documenting this, but these parameters are new:

  • format – adding the parameter "format=short" suppresses the red bars that say "Character information" and "Show information". This is useful when multiple minor characters are listed on a parent page. Example: Cleveland Brown uses the full format for Cleveland, the "short" format for Loretta.
  • altname – use this when name of character is different from page title. Examples: Cleveland Brown#Family.

[edit] name parameter overused?

  • name – the name on top of the box is taken automatically by from the article title (or from altname), so entering name just adds a 2nd name to the infobox. Leave this out to save space unless there is a different full name worth elaborating in the infobox.

I guess these are suggestions rather than rules since no one else has had any input. Feedback is welcome. / edg 23:05, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
