[edit] Aircraft sizes

I am slightly confused here. The article says that the largest planes that the airport can handle is a 747. It then goes on to say that the runways and taxiways (I'm presuming) are not strong enough for DC-10s. However, the 747 is a much larger and much heavier airplane than the DC-10, so I'm not quite sure of the logic here. Does it have to do the weight that each of the wheels on the two different airplanes have to carry?

This scenario is the same way with the A-340. There is a derivative of the A-340 called the A-340-600. This airplane is about 240 feet long, sever feet longer than the 747, so I can see how a problem might arise there if the taxiways ween't wide enough for one of these planes to turn between two taxiways. However, the article explicitly states that there is a weight conflict with the airplane. Overall, all types of the A-340 are smaller and lighter than the 747.

I am not sure whether the author of this article is reering to some very detailed information about which I don't know, or whether he or she simply does not know the information. In the former case, some clarification in the article would be nice. In the second scenario, I would suggest either verify the information about which you are writing. However, a better plan would be not to write about this information, but at the same time, clarify the limitations of your knowledge in the discussion page and request that an expert on the subject write the article. But please, do not write incorrect information.
