[edit] About FACE Africa

Face Africa is a charitable organization that helps communities in Africa address some of their basic but critical needs by identifying and bringing to them effective programs that exist in other communities within and outside of Africa. The organization particularly support programs that address rural areas, affecting primarily women and children, and that can easily be adapted, owned, and sustained locally.

Their five Program areas are:

(1) Education, (2) Healthcare and Nutrition, (3) Technology, (4) Agriculture and (5) Micro Credit

Each year, FACE Africa selects one successful program that the management team has identified and vets potential communities against that program, while building partnerships with local organizations. Partnering with one or more local organizations and working with members of the community are critical for ensuring that the selected program can be effectively adapted locally and sustained.

They consider programs based on a careful analysis of the community's need, program innovation and results, and the ability to be sustained locally. Once a community and a program are identified, FACE Africa raises funds, through various avenues, to guarantee the successful launch and implementation of the program. FACE Africa also assists with staff recruitment on the ground; start-up planning to adapt the program to the community's circumstances; outreach to key political, funding, and nonprofit groups in the community; and early-stage operational and management support.

FACE Africa also educates, advocates and raises funds in the US on behalf of non-profit programs and campaigns that benefit women and children in all parts of the developing world. One such campaign is UNICEF's Tap Project, a grassroots initiative whose goal is to provide clean water to children around the world. In early 2008, FACE Africa worked with thousands of organizations and individuals nationwide to raise awareness of the Tap Project, by recruiting restaurants and hosting a small fundraiser dinner on March 22nd, World Water Day, in support of the Tap Project.

[edit] Education

In April 2008, FACE Africa launched it's first fundraising campaign in support of their Fund a Child's Education Program to provide educational opportunities and infrastructure to children affected by war, conflict and poverty in Africa. Their current efforts are focused on Liberia, a country that recently emerged from a 14 year civil war and desperately lacks the resources and infrastructure to educate it's young children.

FACE Africa lets potential donors connect with and send a child to school through their website. By choosing a child on www.faceafrica.org, individuals can "sponsor a child" and help disadvantaged children make great strides towards achieving an education. Throughout the course of the semester or school year, donors can receive email journal updates about the child's progress and even get the chance to communicate with the child you helped directly.

The organization partners with existing educational institutions in the countries it serves. In doing so, they gain access to needy students from impoverished communities and link up with experts who help in allocating funds appropriately.
