[edit] 'doctored' recordings

"it was revealed that his records were doctored significantly to improve his voice"

Lucky that never happens anymore, eh? :-[
I don't doubt the veracity of this statement -- but it is a significant allegation that should be cited. The external link currently provided does not make this claim. When alledging wrongdoing, even decades ago, by a public figure (especially a still-living one), a verifiable source must be provided. 66.17.105.226 21:57, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
If you google around, you'll find several sources (some posing as "reference" sites)stating that Fabian confessed to this "doctoring" in congressional testimony during the payola hearings.
However, Thomas Doherty's book "Teenagers and Teenpics" (Temple University Press, 2002) quotes NY congressman Steve Derounian as assailing Fabian: "Why hasn't he sung more frequently in his own flesh instead of getting those hormone treatments on the records?...Isn't it true about the engineers jazzing up the records of Fabian?"
It goes on to say that there was some interest in having Fabian sing before Congress to see whether he could sing, but that Fabian was unable to appear due to Hollywood commitments.
The fact is, the payola hearings did not stir up enough real corruption to justify their expense and media visibility, and Derounian, one of the spearheads of the whole deal, was grasping for justification.
His remarks probably did harm Fabian's career, but nothing would have prolonged his teen idol status into the years of the British invasion.
I haven't changed the article, as further research should be done as to whether such 'doctoring' was confirmed in other testimony. But I would like to know what is the supposed difference between 'doctoring' and legit techniques of sound engineering. Bustter (talk) 11:42, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Surely a better photo can be found? I didn't even recognize the Fabian I "knew". Icemuon 23:25, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
