[edit] Summary

Description

A Douglas F4D-1 Skyray of Marine fighter squadron VMF(AW)-115 Able Eagles. In the spring of 1957, the squadron received the Marine Corps' first F4Ds. Between 1957 and 1964, VMF(AW)-115 was usually deployed at MCAS Cherry Point (North Carolina, USA). From 19 Apr 1962 to 27 Aug 1962 the squadron was deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence (CVA-62) as part of Carrier Air Group Seven (CVG-7) (tail code "AG") to the Mediterranean Sea. The photo was taken before VMF-115's tail code was changed from "AE" to "VE", as this tailcode was given to CVG-13 ("AE" 1962), and CVG-6 ("AE" 1963-1992).
