A pioneer of wildlife photography in India, F. W. Champion was an officer with the Imperial Forest Service and was based in the United Provinces of India. Using a camera trap, Champion photographed tigers and inspired Jim Corbett to turn to wildlife photography. Champion wrote about his experiences of wildlife photography in the books "With a Camera in Tiger-land" and The Jungle in Sunlight and Shadow. He was a passionate conservationist (before conservation was fashionable), and campaigned hard for protection of tigers and their forest habitats.
