Famicom Grand Prix: F-1 Race (ファミコングランプリ F1レース?) is a racing game developed and published by Nintendo. It was released only in Japan on October 30, 1987 for the Famicom Disk System. This game was also used for a contest held in Japan. High scorers won a special Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch sealed in a case shaped like Nintendo's Famicom Disk System mascot, Diskun (also known as Mr. Disk). Nintendo had plans to release the Famicom Grand Prix series in the North American regions, but then later decided not to localize it.[1]

[edit] Gameplay

The game involves Formula One cars and is a top-down racing game. The player can either choose to play alone, or with other cars. The cars have a certain amount of health and fuel, which can decrease if the player crashes into a wall, crashes into another car, or drives off the road. Health and fuel can be regenerated if the player takes a pit-stop, but doing so takes away racing time. Winning the Grand Prix earns you money, which can be used to unlock new cars.

[edit] Sequels

A sequel of this game was released only in Japan, known as Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally. The sequel is completely different from the original, other than the fact that both are racing games.
