It's pronunced [ˈfaːɹˌɔɪː] (Faroy, lit. Distant Island) in the local language Gutnish and [ˈfoːɾˌøː] (Fårö, lit. Sheep Island - a corrupted form) in Swedish.

The fact, that the access to Färo was restricted to foreigners results to conclusion, that there were ( or even are) military installations. What kind of installations were these?
