[edit] Claims of Meeker as preservationist
I removed references in the article to Meeker seeking to preserve the Oregon Trail. Instead evidence points to Meeker being driven by the notion of memorializing the trail, not actual preservation of trail ruts. Moreover, I deleted reference to the U.S. Congress appropriating $50,000 to preserve the trail. Congress appears to have considered a $50K proposal for marking the trail but did not appropriate money. History Ink.Fishdecoy 22:01, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
