[edit] USRD Inactivity check and news report

Hello, Exw81. We had a few urgent matters to communicate to you:

  1. Please update your information at Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Participants, our new centralized participant list. Those who have not done so by October 20th will be removed.
  2. There are important discussions taking place at WT:USRD relating to whether WP:USRD, WP:HWY, or the state projects should hold the "power" in the roads projects.

Regards, Rschen7754 (T C) 23:18, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New NC Maps RAWK.. Just a few ideas

For the record, LOVE the new maps. Thank you SO MUCH for making them. However, in perusing some of them, the scale on the article makes them all but illegible. The writing is so small that you can barely make out anything. They appear mostly as random red lines surounded by random blue lines. Is there anyway to increase the legibility of the route markers and a few city and/or county names on the maps to make them more legible? --Jayron32|talk|contribs 07:24, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

They are more legible in full view, but only because they take up the full screen. Ideally, there SHOULD be a map which is info-box sized AND legible. Some possibilities that may help the situation:
  • Maybe show each on a full (or nearly full) map of North Carolina instead of a zoomed-in view. That may provide context better. See: M25 motorway for an example.
  • A more simplified map with starker colors may help. Interstate 495 (Capital Beltway) for example, does not have much larger fonts than you use, but the pastel colors MAY be hindering reading on the NC maps you have created.
  • Here's another style map: Massachusetts Route 2
  • Here's another: Interstate 40 in North Carolina. If you used the source map for this one, and zoomed it in at the county level, the county names may be legible enough to work with.
Also, you might want to contact User:Kmusser; another cartographer. For the record, I can't make maps at ALL, but he is VERY good, and he may be able to help you tweak your maps for better readibility. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 16:49, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blue Ridge Parkway tunnels

I just wrote up an article in the Blue Ridge Parkway tunnels and am thinking about placing a map of some type to point out that 25 of the tunnels are in North Carolina and only one is in Virginia. I submitted this as a hook for a self nominated DYK. Would a map or map info box be appropriate next to the TABLE of tunnels? I don't know how to do it and maybe you could help me on this. Thanks.--Doug talk 13:10, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
