Talk:Extraction of petroleum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Occasionally, detergents are also used to decrease oil viscosity as a tertiary oil recovery method." This is not true. Detergents (usually referred to as surfactants within the oil industry) do not reduce the viscosity of the oil. They reduce interfacial tension between water and oil, thereby mobilizing immobile oil, leading to a lower residual oil saturation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.177.48.33 (talk) 14:03, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
