Extreme environment
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An extreme environment is an environment that is far away, or difficult to reach, or where there exists any of the following extreme conditions:
- very high or low temperatures
- very high or low pressure
- little atmosphere or weak gravity[1]
An extreme environment is one where humans generally do not live. However, they can choose to explore these places. There are living beings, organisms referred to as extremophiles, that inhabit these spaces.
Humans hope to find resources via exploration of extreme environments. Scientists also hope to use research of extreme environments in order to help understand the environments of the other planets.[2]
Examples of extreme environments include the Antarctic, Arctic, other planets, some deserts and volcanoes.
