Excell International School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Excell International School is a private school located in Boston, Lincolnshire, England.

The school was established in 1851 by Martha and Mary Gee as Boston Middle Girls School at George Street and was "intended for female children whose parents are in the rank next above the actual poor".[1] It subsequently moved to its current site at Tunnard Street, at a rebuilding cost of £800.[2] In 1905 the school was renamed Conway School. In 2000 Conway School had 100% passes in the 11+ for the third year running. Former owner and head teacher Simon McElwain was jailed for two years, in October 2007, after admitting the possession of child pornography images. He had been forced to step down from his position in November 2004.[3][4] Under McElwain the school had 140 pupils and employed 19 staff, with annual day fees costing around £3,500. McElwain sold the school to David and Caroline Wilson in April 2005.[5] The new head teacher was Philomena Rynne.[6] However around this time, as the charges against McElwain became public, student numbers fell and the school closed on 3 January 2007.[5]

Maypole House School was founded in 1884, occupying Well Vale Hall in Well near Alford.[7] Maypole House received a Food Hygiene Award from the East Lindsey District Council in May 2006.[8] The school fees were £2,400-£2,800.[9] In January 2007 they took over the site at Tunnard Street.

The two schools merged, in January 2007, to form the Excell International College. They also started to take boarders and extended the age range of students from 3-18. The combined school attained unwelcome notability in January 2008 when it was announced that none of their students attained five or more A*-C GCSEs.[10][11]

So congratulations, Samantha!"

Concluding Dr Hunt stated that "Any project that helps gifted children in local state schools to enhance their education is very welcome.
