[edit] Translation and origin of maxim

I tidied this section up a bit. Most importantly, I corrected the English translation. I also made it clear that the Greek biographer Plutarch's account of Pythagoras' experiment actually comes to us via the Roman author Aulus Gellius. Plutarch's account does not survive.
