Does anyone have a better map? This one is hopelessly confused.

For one thing, it would be nice to have an indication that Alsace isn't the area north of Paris.

Then there's the matter of Germany: in what sense did Germany emancipate its Jews in 1871? Of course, it couldn't have happened before then, as the Empire was founded on Jan. 1 of that year. Over on the right, Prussia gets a date of 1850. What happened then? The crucial emancipation edict was that of March 11, 1812, which granted Jews citizenship rights. The next crucial moment was 1847, when most of the remaining restrictions on Jews were removed. 1869 and 1873 are also possible dates.

Most of the dates in this map strike me as almost randomly generated. Where may we read about the reasons for choosing them? RogerLustig 00:36, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
