[edit] Additional Qualifying Round
Israel has become the final team in Group A by qualifying through a series of tournaments, which have been held in the summer of 2007, prior to Eurobasket. The ten teams competing for a place in the group stage of Eurobasket were divided into three groups, which were won by Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYR Macedonia, and Israel respectively. These teams have progressed to form a new group, and Israel, being the winner of this group, advanced to the final competition, taking the remaining position in Group A.
The three teams that finished last in their groups - Hungary, Sweden and Denmark, have also played in a new group, with the bottom two teams in it being relegated to Division B. Since Hungary has beaten both rivals, they have secured a spot in the Eurobasket 2009 Division A qualifications, thus relegating Sweden and Denmark to the Division B.
