One funny thing I have noticed, the kabutops and aerodactyl fossils can be found in the museum in pewter city. Maybe the game accidently loads those when you encounter MISSINGNO. However, that doesn't account for the ghost type.

Actually, they are two of four different varieties of MISSINGNO.. They have an interesting quirk where they will often mimic the stats of other Pokemon in your party after a battle. This one site ("Prof. Glitch's Lab") had a lot of info on them, but the site died and the webmaster replaced all of its content with a link to another glitch site ("Glitch City"), one with notably less information on MISSINGNO. and 'M. - DavidJCobb

Should be noted, MISSINGNO. and 'M aren't known to delete any important save data (unless you care about your Hall of Fame); MISSINGNO.'s THOUGHT to be dangerous because viewing its stats in battle glitches the graphics; 'M's thought to be dangerous because trying to withdraw a Lv.0 'M from the PC crashes the game; but neither really are dangerous. - DavidJCobb

It was noted that Glitch Pokemon often default to (become) Ditto; should also be noted, they often default to Rhydon as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.179.49.230 (talk) 00:24, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
