The stadium was built in the 1960s and Sporting Cristal did not use it often in the following decades. It would be used by second division teams and district teams of San Martín de Porres. In 1995, Sporting Cristal rented the stadium from the Instituto Peruano del Deporte and renovated the stadium. On September 24, 1995, Cristal used the stadium to play against Cienciano and won 6-0. From that point on, the stadium is used by Cristal as a home ground. Another first division club that uses this stadium is U. San Martín.
