Erythropoiesis-stimulating agent

Erythropoiesis-stimulating agent, commonly abbreviated ESA, an agent similar to the [Chemical?] that stimulates red blood cell production (erythropoeisis). ESAs, structurally and biologically, are similar to naturally occurring protein erythropoietin.
