Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Was born in 1880 and died in 1938

[edit] Long overdue

Good job T, I'll place the self portrait on Self-portrait after Johnbod does some work there. Modernist 16:08, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Kirchner was an extremely interesting painter, one of the most compelling (in my opinion), there was an exhibition at the Neue Galerie in New York City this summer: ERNST LUDWIG KIRCHNER: BERLIN STREET SCENE July 26 - September 17, 2007. - Modernist 04:37, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Public domain?

Since Kirchner died in 1938, is his work now in the public domain in countries where the rules are artist life + seventy years? Can anyone confirm? See also List of authors about to enter the public domain--Jahsonic (talk) 14:47, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Will enter public domain on 1 January 2009. See Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Visual_arts#Ernst_Ludwig_Kirchner. Tyrenius (talk) 21:47, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Street, Berlin

Are the women in teh painting really prostitutes? Haven´t Kirchner just tried to depict his feelings toward the bourgeois streetwalkers? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.241.148.4 (talk) 14:09, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Nope. They are prostitutes. He was fascinated by them. They were allowed to walk the streets, as long as they didn't look at the prospective clients, so they looked down or in shop windows. It was all a big pretence of good behaviour. Ty 01:58, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
