Ernie Adams is the Football Research Director for the New England Patriots. He is a long time of friend of head coach Bill Belichick. With Adams, the Patriots have won three Super Bowls. Adams is known for his eccentric personality as well as his extremely thorough analysis of the game.
Adams became friends with Belichick when Belichick transferred to Phillips Academy, in Andover, for his senior year. In 1979, Adams, as an assistant coach for the New York Giants, recommended to Ray Perkins that Belichick be hired as a coach. Belichick was subsequently hired on as the special teams coach.
When Belichick became head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 1991, Adams joined him on the staff. Then again in 2000, when Belichick became head coach of the Patriots, Adams was added to the staff. In his work for the Patriots, Adams talks to Belichick during the game, advising Belichick on play calling and coaches challenges.
