Eric Shade is an award-winning author, noted particularly for his book Eyesores, which won the Flannery O'Connor Award for short fiction in 2003.
He was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and was raised there and in Alaska. After graduating from Penn State University, he accepted a post as an English teacher in Seoul, South Korea. He also spent time in Rouen, France, where he began to develop a writing style that would eventually garner him acceptance into the prestigious Creative Writing program at the University of Houston, where he finished his book and completed an M.F.A. degree in Creative Writing.
He is now living in Tokyo, Japan.
Compared to both Sherwood Anderson and Thorton Wilder, Mr. Shade has a profound and acute understanding of and compassion for small town life. His work has appeared in a variety of literary journals, and he has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
