Is it possible (probable) that his name was actually spelt Eric Allandale ? Certainly Google searches throw up more links using this spelling.

RE: The spelling of his name This is quite possible as the obituary article written in the Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/2001/sep/21/guardianobituaries by Val Wilmer puts his name as Allandale.
