[edit] Deepwater

The DEEPWATER project is likely to drastically change the Coast Guard fleet. Should we modify this article with the current and proposed Deepwater ships? Streltzer 23:42, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rumors

There are some comments about re-assigning the US Navy's aging non-nuclear powered aircraft carrier U.S.S. John F. Kennedy to the Coast Guard as a floating disaster recovery base. Link Does the Coast Guard want such an expensive ship, and, if so, why not a smaller (Wasp-class) ship instead? Streltzer 16:56, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

It's not true. There's a group of people (including certain Congressmen) trying to save the Kennedy and they're coming up with weird ideas like selling it to the USCG or NATO. The USCG cannot afford the $200 million p/year cost of operating it and have no need for it for that matter. And NATO doesn't want it. Jigen III 16:14, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
When I saw this I figured it was Pork barrel politics as usual, as it did not make much sense to me and there was no indication that the Coast Guard wanted or needed such a vessel. Streltzer 19:11, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Largest one

Which ship is currently the largest of the fleet? Scriberius 15:06, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

The icebreaking one. I forget its name. Jigen III 16:15, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Class of ship missing?

It appears the class of ships with the designation WPB is missing from Wikipedia entirely. There may be others, too. See [1] for a list. I don't know anything about these ships, so I'll leave putting the information in to the experts... Rmarquet 02:40, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Aircraft

The Coast Guard also has one Gulfstream business jet (C-20) for use as the Commandant's aircraft. They are also upgrading all of the HH-65B's to C, and replacing some of the older model HC-130's with the new J models. Once upgrades of the Dolphins are complete some will be given AUF capabilities and, redesignated MH-65, will replace the Stingray's.

Not sure whether it would be better to subdivide the aircraft by variant, as the HU-25's for example, fill very different roles whether A, B, or C models. Dworjan 21:19, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

I found a reliable site that states that the AUG is used by the USCG see here *Modern Firearms article on the AUG QZXA2 01:41, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
