The free GNU Eprints.org software, first released in 2000, is the first [1] and most widely used [2] software for creating Open Archives Initiative (OAI)-compliant institutional repositories in which to self-archive research articles and theses in order to make them open access so as to maximize their usage [3] and citation impact.
