Episcopal Diocese of Haiti

The Episcopal Diocese of Haiti, or Eglise Episcopale d'Haiti, is the ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Episcopal Bishop of Haiti. The territory comprises the whole nation. Its principal church is Holy Trinity Cathedral in downtown Port au Prince. Governed from the nation's capitol city, the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti is a member see of the greater Episcopal Church which in turn is a member of the Anglican Communion. It is the largest diocese in the Episcopal Church in number of congregants. The The Rt. Rev. Jean-Zache Duracin is the current bishop of Haiti. Today the Diocese of Haiti has nearly 180,000 parishioners in 98 congregations, missions, and preaching stations. Less than 30 priests currently serve the diocese.^[1]

The Episcopal Diocese of Haiti was started in 1864, by James Theodore Holly, an Episcopal priest from Connecticut who was the first African-American bishop in the Episcopal Church.^[2]
