This page shows the "Split Timeline Theory", in which Kyle Reese creates a completely new set of events by going back in time.

Another explanation of these events is the "Linear Timeline Theory", where there is only one timeline, Kyle Reese is always the father of John Connor, and Skynet cannot be stopped.

This is the original, unaltered timeline. In this timeline, an undisclosed series of events leads to Cyberdyne's development of Skynet, and Judgement Day occurs on August 29, 1997.

  • Circa May 14, 1984 — 1986
    • Sarah meets a guy and has sex with him.
    • John Connor is born.
  • Circa 1984 — 1994
    • Miles Dyson and Cyberdyne begins to work on high technological stuff, which would become the base of Skynet.

  • 1997
    • August 4
      • Skynet is activated, goes online, and begins to learn at a geometric rate.
    • August 29 (Judgement Day)
      • At 2:14 AM EDT, Skynet becomes self-aware and fires nuclear missiles at Russia, intiating a nuclear war.
  • Circa 1997 — 2029
    • John Connor somehow becomes the resistance leader and unites the despairing humans and draws them together into a coherent fighting force, forming Tech-Com and declaring war on Skynet.

This is the timeline brought into existence when Skynet sent a Terminator (Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 Series 800) to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor and a T-1000 (Cyberdyne Systems Model ??? Series 1000) to 1994 to kill John Connor as a boy and when John Connor sent Kyle Reese to protect Sarah from the Terminator and a reprogrammed Terminator to protect John and Sarah from the T-1000.

  • Circa 1984 — 1994
    • Cyberdyne, using the remains of the destroyed Terminator, begins to research and secretly manufacture technological devices based on reverse engineering.
  • February 28, 1985
  • 1985 — 1993
    • Sarah Connor intentionally dates military men in order to teach John how to become a great leader.

  • 1993
    • Sarah Connor is arrested and convicted of attempted arson, criminal damage, and in posession of class A explosives following a failed bombing at Cyberdyne Systems. She was subsequently placed in Pescadaro State Hospital for the criminally insane after explaining her rendition of her account with future beings, time travel, and robots. John Connor is placed into foster care.
  • 1995
  • Circa 1995 — 2004
    • Cyber Research Systems buys Cyberdyne's patents and contracts, and over the course of nine years, continued their artificial intelligence project.
  • Circa August 29, 1997 — Decmber 31, 1997
    • Sarah Connor dies of leukemia. Unbeknownst to John, Sarah's body is cremated in Mexico, and her ashes are scattered to the sea. Her will provides for weapons to be stored in her coffin.
  • 1997 — 2004
    • John Connor is living "off-the-grid" in California with no permanent residence, credit card, or mobile phone and is working freelance, so he can't be tracked.

      • Skynet is activated online, becomes self-aware, and fires nuclear missiles at countries around the world, intiating a nuclear war.

Series T-X) to 2004 to kill John Connor and his future lieutenants and when Kate Brewster sent a Terminator (Cyber Research Systems Model 101 Series 850) to protect herself and John Connor from the T-X.
