An entremetteuse is a woman who teaches young men or young women how to perform sexually. They can also be a liaison who provides trained young women to a young man for the purpose of sex. An entremetteuse was hired by rich families to take their son's virginity, in turn making him a man. An entremetteuse is in simple terms, a sexual teacher, whether teaching the girl so she can perform for a young man, or a young man so he can perform for the girl. It was this position in society that eventually morphed to be viewed as witchcraft, as society's sexual openmindedness came to a close at the decline of ancient Greece. When this act became societally unacceptable, these women were then burned at the stake.
In the TV series Firefly, a similar practice is shown when a young female "companion" is hired by a wealthy family to take their son's virginity.
