Description

NSO index USING Japan Meteorological Agency data. Units: ºC. Initial data is monthly SST anomalies averaged for the area 4N to 4S and 150W to 90W, with a 5-month running mean of the data (plotted in black). Also plotted is 13-month running mean of this; filled blue when below 0 and red above. Above 0 (red) represents El Nino conditions. Below 0 (blue) represents La Nina conditions. Data before 1949 is based on reconstruction; after, on observation.
