Enrique Sánchez Lansch is a Spanish-German film director and screenwriter.
Enrique Sánchez Lansch was raised in Gijón (Northern Spain) and Cologne (Germany). During his extensive academic and artistic education in theatre and music (including a career as an opera singer as well as a master’s degree in Romance Philology writing his master’s thesis on film adaptation of literature) Enrique Sánchez Lansch works as an assistant director first for opera productions and later for film and TV while still performing on the opera stage. In the mid 90s he decides to focus exclusively on film. His work brings him further than Germany to Italy, France and Greece writing and directing films mostly on music, opera or ballet subjects. After some years of producing and directing fiction programs for television Enrique Sánchez Lansch spends a year to develop new projects and improve his film and screenwriting skills at the Columbia University, New York, and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Since 2002 he is Berlin based working as a director and writer of feature length films, both documentary and fiction.
A selection of his recent films includes: Rhythm is it! Theatrical documentary about 250 Berlin youngsters working with British choreographer Royston Maldoom, conductor Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic in a fascinating outreach project. 100 min. 2004 Sing for your life! Documentary about young singers from all over the world at the International Singer’s Competition New Voices 2005. 60 min. 2005 Schumann, Schubert und der Schnee Film adaptation of the opera by Hans Neuenfels with music from Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert. 60 min. 2006 Mstislav Rostropovich – The musical conscience (2007). Documentary featuring cellist and conductor Rostropovich in some of his latest rehearsals and master classes. “The Reichsorchester” – The Berlin Philharmonic and the Third Reich Theatrical documentary featuring some surviving former members and other eyewitnesses together with footage never seen before in public. 90 min. 2007
The theatrical documentary Rhythm is it! was awarded with the German Critics Award, the Bavarian Film Award and twice with the German Film Award.
In 2008 Enrique Sánchez Lansch will complete his feature length documentary Promise of Music about young Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the Youth Orchestra Simón Bolívar.
