Talk:Enhanced Versatile Disc
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hmmm...
Sounds like essentially a DVD with different file formats burned onto it. I don't know that there's anything "enhanced" about it - except maybe being more open source...
What is the purpose of the link to Theora? The relationship between Theora and the EVD standard is not clear to me, and if there is a link to Theora in the article, it should be justified by the text of the article. Is PV5/6 based on Theora (which was based on PV3)? Is Theora going to replace PV5/6? Are they really the same thing? --68.41.122.213 19:24, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Successor to DVD?
I don't really see any point of discussing this as a successor to DVD. It was clearly intended as an alternative (that appears to have failed) to DVD based on the time frame and the design. As such, links to HD DVD and BluRay seem unnecessary. So I decided to be bold and have removed the following paragraph:
- There are several other formats which are vying to become the successor to DVD. HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc are being created by two large international consortia. A third, FVD, is being marketed in Taiwan only.

- HD DVD and blue-ray are about as oberly hyped as Windows Vista, and their DRM-schemes will be the early death of them. i've heard EVD can hold more room than DVD.. is this true?.. (didn't see anything in the article) ~ 75.15.252.19
- All of the "next generation" formats, i.e. HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, can hold more than a standard DVD. I wouldn't get my hopes up over this format, though. It's a product being kept barely alive by nationalism and government fiats. I doubt it'll last. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.109.134.80 (talk) 14:29, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I read the first half of this article and I still have no idea what an EVD is. Someone needs to summarize or clarify it. 69.143.230.107 (talk) 05:10, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
