English Disease
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
English disease may refer to one of the following.
- Football (soccer) hooliganism
- Obsolete medical terms for some conditions:
- Syphilis
- Depression (mood), in particular, hypochondria
- Sudor anglicus
- Rachitis/rickets [1][2]
- The English Disease, a novel by Joseph Skibell.
- Writing parts of compound words in other Germanic languages with spaces between its parts, as is done with many in English, is sometimes dubbed “the English disease” in Dutch and Norwegian and possibly elsewhere as well. e.g. writing middel eeuwen'in Dutch or middel alderen in Norwegian instead of the usual middeleeuwen/middelalderen (middle ages).
