Stargate: Empire at War

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stargate: Empire at War is a modification of the Lucas Arts game Star Wars: Empire at War, in development by The Stargate Modding Group, with an expected release for EAW in Autumn 2007 and the Forces of corruption version by Spring 2008.

The modification features Stargate styled units, with completely new models, sounds and a new menu. The current modification version is in final 0.8, with a German installer and language pack. The English language pack is available as a separate download and features English text and sounds. The latest release focuses on solving many problems, introducing several new ground units, putting in place balancing measures and changing several things to better suit the series. The most notable change occurs to the Tau'ri alliance which is now more dependant on unit diversity in space.

A separate English patch is now available which changes the Audio clips which were previously in German to their English counterparts.

[edit] Factions

Goa'uld Alliance The Goa'uld are considered the main "bad guys" of the Stargate SG-1 universe, and in the modification they are represented as the main portion of the Goa'uld alliance. The only non-Goa'uld unit possible to build in-game is the Ori mothership, the only other faction in the alliance. The Goa'uld replace the Empire's role in the original game.

Tau'ri Alliance The Tau'ri are the "good guys" and protagonist in the Stargate SG-1 universe and in the game they represent the bulk of the land force and a large portion of the space force. The alliance consists of the Asgard (only in ships, however Thor is currently on land), Tok'ra and the Tau'ri themselves. The Tau'ri replace the rebels in the game.

The Wraith The Wraith (Stargate) are the recurring bad guys from Stargate Atlantis. In the modification they are an unplayable race that occupies some planets in the galactic conquest maps. The wraith are not a playable faction and replace the Back sun Pirates.

[edit] Space Units Available

The modification introduces new space ships for space combat. In the EAW version there are no cloakable ships (as introducing this feature would break copyright), but in the FoC version Ha'taks, Al'kesh and Beliskners can cloak for short periods of time and Puddle Jumpers can remain cloaked indefinitely.

[edit] Goa'uld Alliance

Death Glider Available from a level 1 space station, the Death Glider is the standard fighter for the Goa'uld. It features two staff cannons as its main weapons. Five death gliders are in every squadron.

Al'kesh Bomber Available from a level 2 space station, the Al'kesh bomber is the Goa'uld's only bomber unit in the game. Currently its main weapon is a proton torpedo, however this is likely to change in later releases. 3 Al'kesh per squadron.

Needle Glider Available from a level 3 space station, the needle glider squadron is primarily a scout and light fighter. In the series the needle glider was only in one episode and was considered a variant of a death glider.

Al'kesh Cruiser Available from a level 1 space station on skirmish maps (reason given later), the Al'kesh is the only cruiser type ship of the Goa'uld, other ships are closer to battleships or spacecraft carriers than cruisers. The cruiser variant in-game is not a variant in the series, with the Al'kesh being more of a mid-ranged bomber. The Al'kesh is the first large ship (therefore are not in squadrons) the Goa'uld can build in the game and carry Ha'tak style weapons.

Ha'tak Available from a level 3 space station, the Ha'tak serves as the main Gou'ald battleship, being relatively cheap but still powerful. It has 6 weapon hardpoints, moderate shielding and can spawn deathglider and al'kesh bombers until the hanger is destroyed. The Ha'tak is the first battleship that the Goa'uld can build and is easily more powerful than the Prometheus class ships, however Asgard battlehips have no problem dealing with the Ha'tak itself but the bomber squadrons are more than a match for them.

Old Ha'tak The old Ha'tak is a variant of the normal Ha'tak, only seen in the Movie as Ra's mothership and in the series as Heru-ur ship in the season 2 episode Secrets.

Apophis Mothership The Apophis Mothership is the mothership used by Apophis in the series. In the game this variety is buildable.

Anubis Mothership Not the same as the hero unit, the Anubis mothership is almost exactly the same as in the series, however without the superweapon.

Ori Mothership An Ori Mothership, buildable only through a supergate on some maps, The modding team has said that they might make this available in limited quantities in the GC map.

[edit] Tau'ri Alliance

X-301 The prototype interceptor featured in the SG-1 episode Tangent. In the game it currently features the "lure" ability which attracts all fighters to attack it (to make way for bombers).

X-303 The prototype capital ship, which only one was built in the series called "Prometheus". In the modification the Prometheus is the First capital ship that the Tau'ri can build. The X-303 spawns X-301s until it is destroyed. The X-303 is capable of diverting power to engines.

Puddle-Jumpers The Ancient transport/attack craft used in Stargate Atlantis and by SG-1 in "It's good to be King" and "Moebius". In the FOC version the craft is capable of stealth flight.

F-302 Human fighter/interceptor used throughout the series. In the game the ship can divert its power to the engines making the craft move faster.

Asgard Beliskner The Asgard Beliskner class vessel, first appearing in the series under the name "Thor's Chariot". The Asgard Beliskner features Ion cannons and advanced shielding, with the ability to divert power to shields.

Asgard Research Vessel The "Daniel Jackson" class ship, which features advanced sensors and shields at the expense of weaponry. It currently has the ability to 'sensor ping' an unseen area.

BC-304 Human Daedalus-Class battle cruiser. The buildable ship features multiple railgun and missile batteries, advanced shields and fast engines. The Daedalus class craft is capable of diverting power to engines.

Captured-Ha'tak Originally in the Beta releases was a variant of the Old/Ra Mothership with reduced shields, it is now just a normal Gou'ald Ha'tak that costs more.

O'Neill Battleship Is the most advanced ship the Tau'ri can build (other than the Aurora), has the best Asgard weaponry and shields, in the series was designed to fight the Replicators.

Aurora Battleship Ancient ship buildable only on certain maps through the supergate. Features Drone batteries and multiple energy weapons.
