EMAP Tyne and Wear

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EMAP Tyne and Wear is a local commercial digital radio multiplex in the United Kingdom, which serves the Tyne and Wear television area.

The service launched on 31 November 2000. EMAP Tyne and Wear is transmitted on frequency block 11C from the Burnhope and Fenham transmitters. EMAP was the only applicant for the Tyne & Wear licence by the closing date of August 10 1999. Burnhope is the main signal. Later possible transmitters would be at Alnwick (Shilbottle) and Chatton once local adoption of digital radios reached 31%. This never happened. It was awarded the licence on October 4 1999, having been advertised on April 21 1999.

MXR North East transmits national stations from the same two transmitters.
