Elyas Machera

Elyas Machera is a fictional character in Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time.

Early in his life, Elyas Machera was a Warder to the Aes Sedai Rina. He also trained Lan Mandragoran to be a Warder. It is unknown right now how it occurred, but Elyas became a Wolfbrother at some point and had to abandon the Aes Sedai he is bonded to. Elyas, like all Wolfbrothers is able to talk to and communicate with wolves, but unlike other Wolfbrothers such as Perrin Aybara he lives with wolves, shunning human kind. Soon after discovering his ability, he was hunted by the Red Ajah who believed that he was channeling to communicate with the wolves. He was forced to kill a couple of Warders who chased him in a wood which scarred him as he dislikes to kill warders, for obvious reasons..

After Perrin and Egwene escape from Shadar Logoth (The Eye of the World) they meet up with Elyas who informs Perrin of his ability to speak to wolves. Currently, Elyas helped Perrin free his wife Faile from the Shaido Aiel.

His wolf name is Long Tooth, which is a reference to the long knife he wields. (His human name Machera may be based on the machaera or makhaira, an Ancient Greek long-knife, thus meaning roughly the same as his wolf name.)
