Talk:Elvin Jones
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I happened to see that he performed with Our Lady Peace for one track of their 1999 album "Happiness..." -- a slightly different sound than what he's usually known for, I'd say. Anybody know what else he did in his later years?
[edit] later years...
I once saw Elvin Jones at the U if I, that's Idaho. He was playing the Lionel Hampton Chervon Jazz festival. I was lucky to be able to see him in such a small venue and even sit in on one of his clinics at the college. One of the last and best albums Jones played with Bill Frisell and Dave Holland. Titled Bill Frisell with Dave Holland and Elvin Jones, check it out.
[edit] Picture
I appreciate that Charleswesterman recognizes how inspiring Elvin Jones was to Coltrane's art, and their duets, piano and bass sitting it out, are among recorded jazz history's finest moments. Nevertheless, I think the painting of a soprano saxophonist is misleading as a portrait of drummer Elvin Jones. If no one objects, I will remove it in a week or so. Of course we'd rather replace it with a picture of Elvin than a blank, so if anyone finds one ... ---Sluzzelin talk 03:39, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wide triple photo montage
The triple image of Elvin Jones looked fantastic on my WinXP Mozilla Firefox browser using 1024x768 screen resolution when hard-coded to 800 pixels wide. I'm sorry it didn't work for User:Mind Meal. I imagine that users who have smaller screen resolutions would have trouble with the image set for a larger width than the interior Wikipedia text frame. Users who have larger screen sizes wouldn't get the impact of the image width, which is what was intended. Too bad there isn't an elegant way to tell a Wiki image to size itself to a certain percentage of the open window...
I'm going to try hard coding again but this time within the Gallery. Let's see how that works for viewers. Binksternet (talk) 17:29, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
