Elmwood Inn

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Elmwood Inn of historic Perryville, Kentucky is nationally known because its signature facade is featured on thousands of tins of tea and recipe books that ship every year under the banner of Elmwood Inn Fine Teas company. Built in 1842, the Greek Revival mansion was used as a make-shift hospital during the Battle of Perryville in the American Civil War. Over the years, the building has been used as a school and a fine American tea house. Guests of the Elmwood Inn have included Ronald Reagan, Colonel Harland Sanders, and Lynn Redgrave.

Elmwood was rescued by preservationists in 1974, placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and designated as a Kentucky landmark by Governor Wendell Ford.
