Elmopalooza is a Sesame Street special that aired on ABC on February 20, 1998.
[edit] About the show
During the show's opening sequence, a voiceover lists the guest stars: "Tonight from Radio City Music Hall, it's Elmopalooza, with Jon Stewart, David Alan Grier, Rosie O' Donnell, Gloria Estefan, En Vogue, The Fugees, Kenny Loggins, Shawn Colvin, Jimmy Buffett and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones".
At the beginning of the show, Jon Stewart enters a dressing room and asks the producer Prairie Dawn if the dressing room door has been fixed. The door has been sticking shut. Prairie tells Jon not to worry about the door. She has a show to produce and is preoccupied. Elmo visits Jon before the show starts. Not knowing about the sticky door, when Elmo leaves he closes the door behind him.
Grover takes Susan, Gordon, Mr. Hartford and Bob to Radio City Music Hall in a limo. Grover doesn't know the way to the theater, but the limo has a navigation system. He tells the car where he wants to go and it gives Grover a video map of how to get there.
At Radio City Music Hall, Elmo and the Sesame Street gang decide to put on the show themselves. They make music videos for the show's musical guests.
In the limo, it becomes cold. Grover stops driving because there are penguins in the road. This means they're lost. The penguins hop into the limo. At this point, the passengers begin to notice that the ride is taking too long. Gordon says to Grover "I thought this car had a fancy video screen with a map on it." Grover replies "It is funny you should mention that. It wasn't a video map after all. It was a video game." The chicken got the highest score in 'Space Invaders.' Then, aliens get into the limo. Grover and the limo were just 10 miles from Roswell, New Mexico and the aliens' spaceship's radiator overheated.
During the show, while Elmo sings with Rosie O' Donnell everything goes wrong. The entire set is ruined.
Grover and the people arrive at the theater just before the finale of the show.
Dejected, Elmo announces his plans to leave. From inside the dressing room, Jon senses Elmo's distress and tells the Muppets to play the video of Kenny Loggins singing "One Small Voice" -- which is locked in the dressing room. Oscar then saves the day by sprinkling pepper (which Bert had been carrying in his pocket) on the nose of his pet worm Slimey. Slimey lets out a huge sneeze, blowing the door down on top of Jon.
Big Bird than runs throughout the building back to the "control room," passing through the set of Late Night with Conan O'Brien, where Conan is in the process of interviewing two aliens.
At the finale, the Sesame Street gang sing about songs.
