Elias Levy, a.k.a. Aleph One. Cropped screenshot from "Hackers" episode of the Net Cafe series from the Internet Archive, originally released in 1996. Film is licensed under the CC-NC-ND license.
This image is a screenshot from a copyrighted film, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by the studio which produced the film, and possibly also by any actors appearing in the screenshot. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
Fair use because:
- This is cropped from part of a single low-resolution frame out of an entire TV show, of a single person depicted within the show. Therefore, both in absolute magnitude and proportionally, very little of the copyrighted work is reproduced. Therefore, it does not compete with the copyright holder's usage, especially since the original film is under a Creative Commons license and freely distributable anyway.
- The image serves to depict Elias Levy, and does not depict the show host or any content of the interview on the show. Therefore it is not a replacement or substitute for the original copyrighted work.
- No freer alternatives are available.
