Elizabeth High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school located in Elizabeth, New Jersey, as part of the Elizabeth Public Schools. With approximately 5,291 students, it is the largest high school in New Jersey, and one of the largest single district high schools in the country.[2]
As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 5,216 students and 404.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 12.9.[1]

[edit] Houses
Elizabeth High School is comprised of the following seven houses, plus an administration building and sports center:
- Peter B. Gold Administration Building
- Dunn Sports Center
- Jefferson House
- Dwyer House
- Halsey House
- Edison House
- Aboff House
- Upper Academy
- Lower Academy
- Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy will open its doors in the 2008-09 school year. This house will have rigorous curriculum with the philosophies of the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). Students will be required to wear school uniforms, perform community service, and take ownership in the AVID program. The Preparatory Academy is going to be he highest Academies Elizabeth High School will have to offer to our children.
Dwyer House, Halsey House, The Gold Administration Building, and Dunn Sports Center share one large building, forming the "Main Complex" of Elizabeth High School. Jefferson House, Aboff House, Edison House, and the Upper and Lower Academies are each located in separate buildings within two miles of the Main Complex.
Williams' Field, which holds the football field and outdoor track, is adjacent to Edison House.
[edit] Vocational programs
Elizabeth High School's vocational programs are located in Edison and Aboff Houses. Subjects range a wide variety of vocations including nursing, computer networking, automotive repair (with a complete automotive repair shop), electronics, robotics, and a fully functional ShopRite supermarket which is currently supervised by Daniel Andretti, a former English teacher in Edison House.
[edit] Upper and Lower Academies
The Upper and Lower Academies were added in the 2006-2007 school year. Admission to these academies is by application only, mostly by students who were formerly part of the district's "Gifted and Talented" program. The Lower Academy is home to freshmen and is situated in the former Terrence C. Reilly Middle School (#76), while the Upper Academy is located near the Goethals Bridge at the former William F. Halloran School (#22) and is home to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Elizabeth High School has an interim principal, Mr. Jeff Roszkowski. Each house has a House Director and an Assistant House Director who fills the role of Principal and Vice principal.

The Elizabeth High School Minutemen compete in the Watchung Conference, a high school sports association under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). The conference consists of public high schools covering Essex County, Hudson County and Union County.
The football team won the 2006 North II, Group IV state sectional championships, defeating Phillipsburg High School, 14-9.[3] The team won the 1999 North II, Group IV sectional championship with a 26-14 win over Montclair High School.[4]
The boys basketball team won the 2003 North II, Group IV title, topping Linden High School 77-72 in the final.[5]

- Todd Bowles (born 1963), former NFL Defensive Back with the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers. Currently, the Defensive Back Coach of the Dallas Cowboys.[6]
- Rodney Carter (born 1964), former NFL Running back/3rd Down Receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers.[7]
- Al Catanho (born 1972), former linebacker in the NFL for the New England Patriots and the Washington Redskins.[8]
- Horace Jenkins (born 1974), former player in the NBA.[9]
- Luther Wright (born 1971), former player in the NBA for the Utah Jazz.[10]
