[edit] City or burgh?

Why is Elgin City so named? Elgin isn't a city is it?SimonFromLids 08:36, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

As Elgin Cathedral was a pre-Reformation cathedral: according to the Municipal Year Book, 1972 the royal burgh of Elgin officially enjoyed city status. Since burghs were abolished in 1975, Elgin is now often called "former city". → friedfish 10:15, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
