El morro del tulcán
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
El Morro del Tulcán (lit. The nose of the Tulcán) is an Indian pyramid in Popayán, Colombia. The pyramid dates to at least 1535AD when the Spanish found it abandoned when they arrived in that year.[1] Research suggests the individuals buried there come from their very top of the social class of their society.[2]
The pyramid was constructed at the pre-Columbian time, approximately between years 500 - 1600 B.C; the period which is know known as "the Delayed Cacicales Societies". On this pyramid a statue dedicated to the Conqueror Sebastián de Belalcázar exists today, who carried out the Hispanic foundation of Popayán.
El Morro del Tulcán is also the main archaeological site of Popayán.
