El Camino High School is a small independent study high school located in Ventura, California. It is a member of the Ventura Unified School District (VUSD).
El Camino High School is unique in the Ventura Unified School District in that it allows students to complete work at home. Students are required to come to school a minimum of one hour per week to meet with their teacher, take tests, and receive homework assignments. To maintain enrollment, students must complete a minimum of 20 hours of work per week. However, many students supplement their core school work with extracurricular activities like music or drama in local high schools, sports, or Ventura College classes. Many students also work full or part-time, earning credits through the work experience class.
Currently, El Camino has a small enrollment, however, there plans are to expand the number of students in the program following the move to Ventura College for the 2007-2008 school year.
