Eileen Ryan (born 16 October 1928) is an American actress who has appeared in a number of movies and TV series. She was the wife of the late actor and director Leo Penn. She is the mother of actor Sean Penn, singer Michael Penn and the late actor Chris Penn.
Ryan was born to an Irish-Italian[1] Roman Catholic family in New York City, under the name Eileen Annucci, the daughter of Rose and A. William Annucci. She married Penn, an actor and active union member who was once blacklisted. They were married from 1957 until his death in 1998.
Eileen Ryan appeared with her two actor sons Sean Penn and Chris Penn in the 1986 film At Close Range. She played the part of their grandmother in the film.
