Description

Exterior view of the new armory for the Eighth Regiment infantry. This regiment was made up of African American National Guard members, and they had problems finding suitable housing. Prior to the construction of this armory, the men had lived in a barn at East 37th and Michigan Avenue. The new armory was located at East 35th Street and South Forest Avenue in the Douglas community area of Chicago, Illinois.
