Eight Seconds was a pop band formed in 1982 in Ottawa, Canada. They are best known for their 1987 top-30 single "Kiss You (When It's Dangerous)" from the full-length album Almacantar. The bands lineup included Andrés del Castillo (vocals/guitars), March Cesare (bass), Frank Levin (keyboards), Scott Milks (drums) and Marc Parent (guitars).
Originally, Eight Seconds was a cover band playing local bars in Ottawa, but one of their first originals entitled "Where's Bula" won the CHEZ 106's Sharechez '83 homegrown contest. Afterwards they contacted Corvideocom to make a video for the song, which received airplay on MuchMusic and MTV's Basement Tapes show. "Where's Bula" also won the 1984 Canadian Film and Television Association's Best Music Video of the Year.[1] In 1985, the five-song EP, Ottava Rima was released and charted in Ottawa both on CHEZ 106 FM and CFRA AM. This EP was sent to producer Rupert Hine and the EP's two most popular tracks, "Where's Bula" and "Kiss You (When It's Dangerous)" were re-recorded for Almacantar, which was released the following year on Polydor. They were also nominated for one Juno Award (Most Promising Group) and six Casby Awards (Best Single, Most Promising Group, Best Group, Best Video, Best Album Art) in 1987.
A second album, entitled Big Houses was recorded in 1988 but due to problems with management, the material remained on the shelf until 1990. By then the band had signed with WEA, though Marc Parent had already left and was replaced by Bill Beaudoin. The Paul Northfield produced Big Houses did poorly commercially, and that combined with the dissolution of their American record label, ATCO led to the band breaking up shortly afterward.
Eight Seconds reunited in 2002 and recorded a track for the 2004 Bullseye Records release It Was 40 Years Ago Today: A Tribute To The Beatles. They covered "Hey Jude".
