EI-Q

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ei-Q (瑛九)(1911-1960) is a Japanese Artist born in Miyazaki. Ei-Q was a member of the Avant-Garde in Japan. He has been using a variety of techniques as for example photogram, exposure of photographic paper with no camera, that he called "Photo-Designs." In 2005, the National Museum of Art in Osaka did a special exhibition devoted to such photograms.

In the 50s, Ei-Q founded an artistic movement in Japan : the "Demokrato Artist Association." The association is breaking free from the tradition of master-student relationship in Art in Japan. It promotes spontaneity and originality. Eikoh Hosoe was a member of "Demokrato." Also Ay-O joined Demokrato before joining Fluxus.
